During the height of the blizzard of 1978 the pilot boat Can
Do, with five men aboard, set out from Gloucester to assist
a lost Coast Guard boat and an oil tanker that was in a
mayday situation. Ten Hours Until Dawn tells the story of
what happened on that awful night when the seas were
producing monstrous waves of 40 feet and the wind was
screaming at 100 miles an hour.

Author Talk: Tom Nevers Ghost

Jack Warner offers an unusual look at the island’s history, especially the Tom Nevers area, a section of the island not often studied by historians. He writes the book from the perspective of Tom Nevers’ ghost, whom he says came to visit him one foggy June morning and recounted more than 350 years of the island’s history. Warner has been a Tom Nevers summer resident since 1982 and is vice president of the Tom Nevers Civic League.

The Nantucket Atheneum presents a piano trio concert featuring a newly acquired piano for the Great Hall. Jing Li, cellist, and John Holland, violinist, will join together with pianist Albert Kim to perform a classical program of master works by select composers. The program will be followed by a question and answer session to add another dimension to the performance experience. Program is free with tickets available at the Atheneum Main circulation desk.
