Nantucket 24 One Day at a Time
Nantucketers are invited to take to the streets and beaches, forests and fields equipped with smart phones, Flip-cams, Go-pros and any other HD devices to capture the many faces and spaces of the Grey Lady. Inspired by Day in the Life picture books, and more recently by Kevin Macdonald’s “Life in a Day” documentary, “Nantucket 24” will chronicle a single day on Island through the eyes of Nantucketers. The raw footage will be submitted to Nantucket Films, which will edit and score the film to create Nantucket 24–One Day on Island Time. The film will premiere at the Dreamland Theatre in May of 2012.
Imagine your smart phone footage stretched 30 feet wide across the Dreamland Theatre screen. What better way to celebrate its opening season than to be part of the story! For information on submitting imagery, visit nantucketdreamland.org.

Doomed Tower at Sea
7pm, Great Hall
Free Produced and directed by Paul G. Sanderson III of Our Town Films, Inc., “Doomed Tower at Sea” is a ninety-minute documentary special on the tragic story of an Air Force radar platform built 80 miles off the coast of New Jersey during the Cold War. One of several radar platforms constructed off the northeastern coast of the United States, including Cape Cod and Nantucket, the New Jersey tower collapsed during a storm in the winter of 1961 killing all aboard. The radar platforms were constructed during the height of the Cold War with Russia and were used to watch the skies for spy planes. Originally broadcast on the History Channel, viewers called it riveting and beautifully crafted. The film was awarded a Crystal Award of Excellence and a Telly Award. Paul Sanderson will be present to introduce the film and lead a Q&A with the audience.
Nantucket Historical Association and
Theatre Workshop Nantucket present:
The Crucible 7pm, doors open at 6:30pm
Quaker Meeting House, 7 Fair Street $25 per person
The NHA and Theatre Workshop Nantucket (TWN) celebrate theater arts and the spoken word when costumed actors present a dramatic reading of The Crucible, Arthur Miller’s stirring play about the Salem witch trials.
Set in 1692 in the tumultuous environment of rural Salem Village — a community riddled by conspiracy, fear, and Puritan brimstone — Miller’s play explores a crisis of conscience when an accusation of witchcraft unravels the fabric of a small town. Will John Proctor falsely admit guilt to alleviate his suffering on earth, or will he maintain his honor and safeguard his eternal soul? Directed by Lynne Bolton, this lively reading is presented in partnership with Theatre Workshop Nantucket in the NHA’s atmospheric and historic Quaker Meeting House. For tickets, visit theatreworkshop.com, or call (508) 228-4305.
